"Where morality does not exist, it is our obligation to create morality."
Participation in JipangMUCK requires adherence to only a few simple and common sense rules:
Each player is allotted three characters to role play at Jipang.
Each player must wait for 15 days before taking a second alt, and then 30 days from that time before taking their third and final alt. This does not apply to @name requests, one can send in @name requests as often as they would like. However, having a character @named resets the time limit before a new alt can be taken. Players who take villains as their first character may not have to wait the 15 day window to get a second character, if we feel their participation earns them another character sooner. If they already have a character before taking the villain character, then the 30 day window before their third alt does still apply.
A feature character that has not connected for 30 days without giving prior notice to the wiz staff will most likely be removed. Original characters will be removed sometime after falling 100 days idle. If the player owns publicly used rooms, those will be saved, otherwise all possessions will be removed as well. Don’t expect us to send you an archive of your character, keeping copies of descriptions and characters is your responsibility.
No harassing other players. Harassment can be defined as contacting another player once they have asked you not to, or doing other things to make a player’s stay at JipangMUCK unpleasant in an OOC sense and not stopping once asked either by that player or a member of staff.
Respect player privacy. Giving out the identity of alts, revealing who a player is on other mucks without that player’s permission, or pestering a player for their real life identity is not allowed.
Punishment for violating any of the above rules will be up to administration’s discretion, and may range from a verbal warning to complete sitebanning. Keep in mind that these are NOT the only things someone can do to get removed from the MUCK. Wizzes will be in the position to make judgment calls on other issues as they come up.
On Puppets:
You are able to create puppets as much as you’d like (i.e, the code is in place for them), however puppets are strictly OOC entities until registered by a member of the staff. That is, they can only say and pose as being Out Of Character, but can still move, spoof, etc., like normal puppets. Once you have created a puppet for IC use, use the player editor to set up a finger profile on the puppet, then talk with a member of staff to have the puppet registered for IC use. It is up to the staff whether or not a puppet is appropriate for IC use.
On Building:
You will start with a B-bit, which means that you are free to build things you feel are needed to enhance your RP on the MUCK. There are no limits on making exits or things. You are, however, limited to building 5 rooms unless you consult with a member of staff to get approved to build over that limit. Permission will almost always be granted to construct areas or buildings that fit within the theme of the MUCK. The concern is one of organization rather than literal drive space.
On Programming:
Every character will have free use of MPI.
M1-bits are available upon request to any member of the wiz staff. Those who can demonstrate proficiency in the use of MUF can be granted a M2-bit by consulting directly with the HeadWiz. M3-bits will not be given out by request, but instead given to trusted players who have demonstrated a safe and capable use of MUF in the past according to the discretion of the HeadWiz. Programs may not be used to spy on other players without their knowledge or read from props not directly related to the program being written. The programs remain the property of the programmer, and the programmer is authorized to control or restrict access to them. However, programs made by players -will- be inspected by a member of the wiz staff from time to time, and those found to have programs violating other player’s privacy will lose their programming privileges.
On Staffing:
JipangMUCK will be run with as small as staff as is needed to accomplish all that is needed to manage and maintain the site. Those with w-bits have them as tools to help players, and not for personal use. They will be listed on the wizlist, and are available to help players to the best of their abilities any time they are connected and not listed as being Off Duty on the wizlist. If it is later deemed appropriate to create a Help Staff, those serving in that position will be given W1 bits. Remember those who serve as members of staff are doing so at their own sacrifice of time and energy and are to be treated with respect.
Disclaimer:
The above list of guidelines are not meant to include an exhaustive list of all the things a player could possibly do to get in trouble, nor are they an implied contract between the player and those who run the MUCK. They are subject to change at any time, as the HeadWizard deems appropriate, in order to best suit the needs of the MUCK. Just use some common sense, and everyone should get along fine.
